The Benefits of Facials & How to Know What Facial is Best for You

Table of Contents

There are many types of facials out there. So, how are you supposed to know which is best for you?!! This article will discuss the four main skin types and which type of facial is best for each skin type. You’ll also learn how to identify your skin type. Once you know which kind of facial you will benefit from most, you’ll not only have the confidence when navigating the many skin care products available, but you’ll be able to have healthier, more youthful-looking skin.

To make the best choices for your skincare regimen, you must first identify your skin type. There are four main skin types: normal, dry, oily, and combination. While skin type is determined by genetics, it’s important to note that various internal and external factors our skin is subjected to can cause the condition of our skin to vary significantly.

Let’s start by explaining more about each of the four skin types. This will help you determine your skin type when you analyze your skin. Below are some tips on how to determine your skin type:

  • Normal skin is balanced, with a smooth texture and an even complexion. It usually doesn’t feel too dry or oily, and it isn’t prone to breakouts.
  • Dry skin feels tight and may have a rough texture. It is often flaky, especially around the cheeks and chin, and can be more sensitive than other skin types.
  • Oily skin has a thick texture and produces a lot of oil throughout the day. The T-zone (forehead, nose, and chin) is typically the oiliest area on the face. Oily skin is also susceptible to blackheads and acne breakouts.
  • Combination skin is when some areas of your face are dry while others are oily. The T-zone is often the oiliest, while the cheeks and jawline are more dry.

To determine your skin type, start by doing a visual inspection by looking at yourself in the mirror. It’s also essential that you continue assessing how your skin feels throughout the day. Remember to wash your hands before touching your face. If you don’t, it can transfer bacteria to your face, lead to breakouts, and make your skin feel greasy.

Now that you know how to identify your skin type let’s discuss which facial would be best for you.

  • Normal Skin: If you have normal skin, congratulations! You can basically use any facial that you want, and it will benefit your skin. However, if you’re looking for something a little more specific, we recommend trying a hydrating or anti-aging facial.
  • Dry Skin: If you have dry skin, you’ll want to avoid facial treatments that are too harsh, as they can exacerbate the dryness. Instead, look for facials specifically designed to hydrate and nourish the skin. We recommend trying a hydrating or moisturizing facial.
  • Oily Skin: If you have oily skin, it’s crucial to find facials that will help control oil production without stripping your skin of its natural oils. Look for facials that use gentle ingredients and include a deep-cleansing treatment. We recommend trying an acne-fighting facial or a deep-cleansing facial.
  • Combination Skin: People with combination skin often have areas of both dry and oily skin on their faces. In this case, it’s best to treat each area of the face differently. For the dry areas, use a facial that is designed to hydrate and nourish. And for the oily areas, use a facial that will help control oil production.
